Why we started this

We’re living this too.

Weekends Are for Kids was started by a parent of two youth soccer players.

We kept running into the same questions other sports parents do. The registration fee would show up, and then came the uniforms. Then gear. Then camps. Then another program we had never heard of. Then somebody would mention a different club, level or training option and suddenly there was another decision to understand.

What does this really cost?
Does my kid actually need that?
What’s the difference between these clubs and levels?
Is another camp or training session worth it?
How do we fit all of this into the rest of family life?

There is plenty of information about developing elite athletes. We wanted something for the much bigger group of families whose kids simply love playing sports.

Sometimes the expensive option is worth it. Sometimes the extra training is exactly what a kid wants. Sometimes the better club is worth the longer drive. We just think parents deserve enough information to understand the tradeoff before making the call.

Our lane

Parents first. Experts when the question needs one.

We’re parents, not coaches or scouts.

We focus on the family decisions around youth sports rather than pretending to evaluate every athlete.

When expertise matters, we go find it.

Development, injury, nutrition and other specialist topics deserve credible sources and qualified expertise.

We show our work.

Published research, planning estimates and family-reported data should never be silently mixed together.

The parent still drives.

We research the facts and expose the tradeoffs. You know your kid and family better than an algorithm does.
